About Modern Action

Democracy isn't dead.It's disconnected.

Modern Action helps people connect the issues they care about to the government decisions behind them, weigh in when it can matter, and see what their officials do next.

The disconnect

I care about this. I know it matters. But what am I actually supposed to do?

01It's everywhere

Policy shows up in daily life.

People read, share, vote, donate, volunteer, and try to keep up for a reason. The things they care about are shaped by government decisions: rent, health care, wages, schools, immigration, climate, safety, privacy, technology, war, and the future they are trying to build.

02But following it is hard

The next step is hard to see.

Politics is genuinely complex. News gets filtered through speed and conflict. Social media turns concern into a feedback loop where everything feels urgent but nothing points to a real next step.

03And decisions happen out of view

The decision is hard to find.

Congress introduces thousands of bills a session. Some are symbolic, some are serious, some become the vehicle for decisions that affect millions of people. From the outside, it is hard to know what matters, who has power over it, or what action would make sense.

How it works

From the issue you care about to the office that decides.

Start with an issue or a bill. Modern Action explains the decision in plain English, helps you form your own stance, drafts a message for the officials who can act, and helps you follow what happens next.

1

Issue

Start with what matters to you.

2

Decision

See the bills, votes, and offices involved.

3

Stance

Choose what you want and why.

4

Action

Review the draft, contact the right offices, and follow what happens.

The news tells you what happened. Modern Action shows you what can still be done about it.

Why this works

What makes a constituent message land.

Make your position usable

Modern Action turns your stance and reasons into a clear constituent message that an office can categorize by issue, position, and request.

Reach the office while it can still act

Modern Action identifies the representatives with a role in the decision and shows the available action before you send. Contact can inform an office, but it cannot guarantee an outcome.

Connect issues to real decisions

When a clear federal path exists, Modern Action connects the issue to relevant bills, votes, committees, and other actions instead of leaving you with a generic talking point.

Follow what happens next

Follow bills and issues to see status changes, recorded votes, and other updates after you act, so one message is not the end of the process.

Our standard

Clear civic action, not persuasion.

A civic platform should not quietly steer what people think or send. Modern Action is built around a simple standard: explain the issue, show the relevant decisions, let the user choose their stance, and keep the message in their control.

We don’t run ads

Reader donations and grants keep Modern Action free. Ad revenue rewards engagement, not action. We already know which way that pulls a product.

We don’t take money from campaigns or PACs

Reader-funded means readers come first. No funder gets to shape what we cover or how we frame it.

We don’t tell you what to think

You choose the position and reasons. Modern Action provides the same context and message-drafting tools regardless of who introduced a bill.

Who's behind it

A small team, building in public.

Modern Action is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We're a small team of founders who saw a need for a clear path from caring about an issue to acting on it, without having to spend a Saturday reading bill text.

The product is reader-funded. That keeps the incentives aligned with the people the work is for, not with advertisers, campaigns, or data buyers.
